Campuswide IT Policy and Privacy

Campuswide IT Policy and Privacy information for technology developers, users, and resource administrators. See our How do I page for procedures, forms and background information.

Use Campus Technology Responsibly

Campus computer use and network access is a privilege, and requires that individual users act responsibly. Users must respect the rights of other users, respect the integrity of the systems, data, and related physical resources, and observe all relevant laws, regulations, and contractual obligations.

Know about Laws and Policies that Apply to Your Use of Campus Technology

See UC Berkeley Campus IT Policies and Guidelines.

Protect Campus Data and Individual Privacy

The University encourages free flow of information, giving students, faculty, staff, and external partners access to information to which they have a legitimate right, but access is restricted in cases where mandated by law or UC policy, or as the result of a risk determination by a Data Proprietor.

Each employee, agent, or affiliate of UC Berkeley with control over any campus data is responsible for the stewardship of that data. See the Data Management, Use, and Protection Policy.

Privacy of Electronic Communications

The University does not examine or disclose electronic communications records without the holder's consent, except under very limited circumstances. See Approval for Accessing Berkeley Campus Electronic Communications.
